Apple Season

Apple season is here, and it’s going to be a good one!

We have an orchard on the lower terrace, not terrific, as neither soil nor exposure are really good for apple trees but then someone planted them and so they’ll have to stay. What with loads of rain this year and equally loads of sunshine, even an orchard like ours yields a cartload. I don’t know about their names, which is a pity, but most of them make fabulous apples. We’ve started collecting the red ones, which are going into the cellar for storage. The green ones we eat right away, and the other day I developed and shot a recipe for a really good Tipsy Apple Clafoutis for Heiter Magazine. You’ll find the recipe by following this Link.

Other than apple picking there’s a marked change in the air, summer definitely is over. True we once in a while have one of those what we call Old Biddie’s Summer where I come from, but mostly it’s proper autumn now. The swallows have left, the peacock is back, the first mushrooms in the woods and not long and I will light a fire in the grate at nightfall.

Time to cosy up with a cup of something and some apple clafoutis.

  1. Perfect time for us to pick apples also! Cool evenings and sunny days! Cleaning up my garden yet we still have yummy tomatoes to pick. I will bake this apple clafoutis tonight!

    Hugs, Anni
