No fretting in French
It is Monday, which, to a wide number of the populace, is a reason for fretting. Yet not so in France. There is no fretting on Mondays in France. Neither on Tuesdays, for that matter, or on any other day of the week. In fact, there is no fretting in French.
Which is just delightful, I find. Whatever grey and dull and unpleasantness in this our ordinary life, I shan’t be bothered as long as my mind works the French way, I can’t be bothered in fact because fretting is just unthinkable in French!
So whatever your day today, think yourself thoroughly French and all will become just wonderfully unfretted.

Advent calendars are a huge tradition where I come from: you make little gifts for your loved ones every day until Christmas Day, fourandtwenty little surprises. The advent calendars come in beautifully old fashioned prints on cardboard, with extra glitter, and each day there’s a paper door waiting for you to pry open. Others are more elaborate, pretty baskets filled with twenty four numbered parcels, decorated with red velvet ribbons. The one I’m making for you this season is altogether a different one, and, quite obviously, it’s about beloved France, Christmas in France, and after all, what it takes to celebrate a proper French Christmas.
