They exist in all possible forms and colours and some are loud and some are edible and some are just super lavish and in the recent years it has become very trendy to diy them in even more lavish fashion, when the most beautiful ones are these glittery old fashioned cardboard and paper things.
The one here in the picture, I’ve been using it for years now, I think I already had it as a child, mental note to ask mother. It’s got four and twenty little doors, one for each day running up to Christmas, to make waiting for baby Jesus bringing the Christmas tree (including all the presents underneath that’s what he does where I come from. As far as I’m concerned he doesn’t remove the tree afterwards though.), more entertaining.

Advent calendars come in beautifully old fashioned prints on cardboard, extra glitter and glory, and each day there’s a little perforated window waiting for you be opened. Others are more elaborate, pretty baskets filled with twenty four numbered parcels, red velvet ribbons and sprigs of fir.
